Blogmania

without comments

pen.jpg

I have to admit that this blog endeavor forces me to write.  It’s a good exercise for the mind.  Even if I do get lazy with it.

One of my favorite poems is actually a long-ass poem called “Paradise Lost” by John Milton.  It’s an epic that describes the fall of man from grace.  It’s actually the length of a book and Milton was blind when he recited it to a scribe who wrote down his words.  It was a pain to read at first because the language is from antiquity; however, it really is a masterpiece.  I mention this here because ’Paradise Lost” was probably John Milton’s blog.  In theory, perhaps.  Right?  You can disagree with me if you would like to do so.

Anyhow, it’s great because blogs have brought back writing as a cultural phenomenom.  Let’s face it–writing things out on paper is gonna go away within the next 200 years.  The U.S. postal sytem knows that it’s had to become more savvy with e-mail becoming so popular and convenient.  Stamps are now over 40 cents!

Forbidden fudge cone

without comments

A customer told me our forbidden fudge ice cream is one of the best he’s ever had.  I finally tasted it after amost 11 months.  It’s good on a cake cone and extra dark.  Luckily, I didn’t cook in the kitchen today.

The whole day was pretty good.  Got an application out for a job at the Walters Art Museum in Baltimore.  It’s art collection is world famous.  Cross your fingers for me.  They have art that spans centuries from Egyptian sarcophogai and mummies to medieval knights’ armor.  Very important if you are into exploring the past.  Here is a link to their website.  Check it out and see what I mean.

Maybe it will happen!  Right?

Grill Tending

I was a line cook today.  One of the cooks quit on us.  That’s life in a restaurant.  It’s fine as long as I’m compensated for the assistance in the kitchen instead of the dining room.  Burgers and fries served for all to enjoy.  Heart attacks topped with ketchup and adorned with pickles.  Yum.  Right?  At least I’m learning about the food service industry.

What else…it’s HOT in Baltimore.  East coast summers are swealtering.  Maybe, that’s why more people are asking for our new summer coolers– rasberry, cherry, or pineapple.  Super sweet ice drinks.  Bleeeh.  I had cherry and pineapple.  Neither one appealed to me.  I’ll stick with ice tea.

My dog Charlie goes to the vet this weekend.  It’s for his yearly check up.  I’m not excited about it because he is so fiesty and untrained regarding behaving himself in public.  At least he knows where to go potty.  Let’s go outside Charlie!  Carefully timed walks are important or else disaster.  Charlie is over protective.

John’s Bistro on the Main

without comments

Things have been going okay the past two days.  Had some pretty fancy shmancy pizza and crab dip yesterday at a takeout place with a wine list.  I went with my eldest sister, L***.  Very good.

Worked a night shift last night and eneded up cooking, again.  Maybe I should switch from server to shortorder cook?  Huh?  The hourly wage is higher.   The server tips, however mean that I probably make more money as a server.  It’s a gamble.

Also spent about two hours at Barnes and Noble.  I’ve been trying to get the inspiration and motivation to actually read something.  I used to be really great at reading novels.  Now, I’m stuck on magazine articles or newspaper articles.  It’s sad for someone who majored in English literature.

Later plans include attending a small dinner party down near D.C.  One of my eldest sister’s high school classmates throws parties several times a year.  She’s into hor dourves and fine wine.  I usually end up having some of the Miller Light.  Woohoo.    ; )

Teleport with me.

without comments

jean-grey.jpg

I have another poem to share with you.  Let me know what you think.  All the sci-fi fanatics can relate to this one.

Comic relief

I have a comic book collection.

The total number is one-thousand-plus strong.

I lean towards Marvel.

Stan Lee characters, especially.

I’ve watched Psylocke’s costume change three times.

She’s the British telepath in a Japanese ninja’s sexy bod.

Jean Grey has died twice and returned.

Always more powerful than before.

As you can tell,

it’s all X-men for me.

I am a part of the blue team.

I’ve also read some Spiderman, the Punisher, and the Wildcats.

The Shi’ar Empire was star studded.

I’ve teleported with Nightcrawler;

and was surprised when Madelyn Pryor turned to the dark side.

My comic book collection,

back home in boxes

collecting dust.

Assistant Manager Alert

without comments

br8t-photos.jpg

The assistant manager had a little emergency this morning.  I ended up backing her up in the kitchen.  Yes, I know how to cook.  It was breakfast time and she got a phone call.  Evidently, her fourteen-year-old son ran away from home.  Good thing the police found him near by.  Sadness lingers.  Whew.  Cranked out eggs, sausage, bacon, toast, french toast, and pancakes on demand.  Things got a little crazy there.  People want their food fast and hot.  Otherwise, they lose their tempers.  I kept my cool.

I’ve been looking at the classified adds for better employment.  Maybe, something more challenging for my brain.  We’ll see.  Have a good day people.  Can anyone hear me?  Hello?  Is anyone there?

Lea’s Encore

with one comment

I wanted to share this link with you guys.  It’s Lea Salonga singing “On my Own” from Les Miserables.  This is her performance at the tenth anniversary concert in London, UK.  She was also the voice of Jasmine in Disney’s Alladin.  I guess she’s a Filipina icon.  What do you think of her?

The running man.

without comments

celly.jpg

I tested out my new shoes.  The engineers at Nike really know what they’re doing because I haven’t had such comfortable running shoes since God knows when.  I ran for almost a whole mile folks…just going for a test run.  Man–I am out of shape.  Actually, the shoes were also purchased for my trip up to NYC later this summer.  I plan to walk until I’m dead tired.

Here is a tip on running shoes–retro styles look cool; however, they do not possess the latest engineering  comforts and design for running.  Good shoes are worth every penny.

I have to call my mom this evening.  She guilts me into calling her at least once a week.  Parents have a way of doing that to their kids.  God bless ‘em.  Now, if I can only find my cell phone.  Where did I place that thing?

UPS brown box

without comments

nike.jpg

My running shoes have arrived everyone.  It just took six days from when I placed my order.  A brown box right at the front door.   I just have to break them in by wearing them around the house.  I am happy.

I had a chance to see Shrek III.  It was funny–a safe bet on laughs.  Snow White can be a real bitch.  I like how they parody the Disney Classics.  You’ll just have to watch the movie yourself in order to find out what I mean.  Hint: watch out for the birds.

Things are overall–excellent.  Excited about that new shoes smell.  Now, looking out for the next movie to enjoy this summer.

Birthday celeb.

without comments

A family held their three-year old son’s birthday party at the restaurant today.  The theme was Spiderman.  Wooohoo.  Fun for the whole family.  Little cousins and siblings included.  Of course, they were all stuffed up by the cheeseburgers and chicken fingers that was their meals.  The parents seemed excited and stressed out at the same time.  I think the dad almost fell asleep while waiting for his food.

My running shoes should arrive either tomorrow or Tuesday.  I can’t wait to put them on on go running.  Hopefully, I’ll have the self-motivation to do it everyday.  I just need to focus in on my inspiration to be in shape, again.  Husky is the current state.
